Baking: Brownies

Hi everyone! Yesterday I made brownies and I decided to share the recipe with you. Enjoy!

I got this recipe at .

1/2 cup butter (one stick)

1 cup white sugar

2 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

Step One:

Preheat oven to 350°F and grease and flour an 8-inch square pan.

Step Two:

In a large saucepan, melt 1/2 cup of butter. Remove from the heat, and stir in sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat in cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Spread batter into 8-inch pan. Bake in preheated oven for 25-30 minutes. DO NOT OVERCOOK!!

After my brownies finished, I used a Christmas tree cookie cutter to turn my brownies into Christmas trees. Below is the frosting recipe I used.

Frosting Recipe

I got this recipe from .

5 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup butter (two sticks)

1 cup granulated sugar*

*granulated sugar is NOT powdered sugar.

Step One:

Whisk flour and milk together in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir until it thickens. (This will take a while) It should be very thick when you are done. Remove from the heat and let it cool to room temperature. Once it is cool, stir in vanilla extract.

Step Two:

While your flour and milk mixture is cooling, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. There shouldn’t be any graininess left from your sugar. Then add your cooled flour/milk mixture and beat it. It should look like thick whipped cream when your done.

After this step I used a small round piping tip to frost it. Then I smoothed it out with a small offset spatula. I then put Christmas sprinkles over all of the brownies for ornaments. Then enjoy!
